Causeway CC Team Up with the Caring Caretaker

Following the creation of this new all-inclusive cycling club in January of this year the club has went from strength to strength and now boasts a membership well in excess of 60. One of the main reasons for the creation of the club was charity fundraising and this is where the partnership with Davy Boyle and the continuing links with Coleraine Blind Centre are so important.

This year’s Caring Caretaker Cycle Challenge event has two separate routes one (50 miles) for aspiring cyclists, and the other (15 miles) is ideal for families and everyone who is willing to participate. This event takes place on Sunday 12 May and registration is from 8:30am -9:30am, with the start at 10am sharp.

Club Chairman Robert Downes said, “We are delighted to be able to help Davy this year and raise money for so many worthwhile causes. It is the type of event that really resonates with the ethos of our club which is that cycling should be for everyone.”

Causeway CC Tour De Algarve

Several members of Causeway Cycle Club have recently returned from their inaugural Tour De Algarve.

The club was formed to encourage cyclists of all abilities to enjoy cycling in a non-competitive environment and members expressed an interest to try their hand at a cycling holiday in Europe during the winter months. The five-day trip was based in the Algarve and each day comprised of between 40 and 80 mile cycles on quiet Portuguese roads, taking in beaches, coastal scenery, orange groves and historic sites. Café stops, sampling the best of local cuisine and hospitality were a frequent item on the daily itinerary.

The weather was warm and sunny and the group got to try out their new club kit for the first time. One of the club founders, Niall McGill said: “This trip has introduced the club to a whole new side of leisure cycling and one that other members are keen to

repeat.”
