Causeway members at National Squad Training

Four members of the successful Causeway Archery Club travelled to Moira recently where they took part in National Squad Training.

Shonni Macfadyen and Ross McClelland from Ballymoney, Kristin Lundy from Portstewart and Gemma Kane from Portrush participated in a structured training programme laid down by the National Coaches.

All four Causeway Archers had been selected to attend after impressing at this year’s National Indoor Championships held in Banbridge and at several other domestic shoots throughout the year. They now have a busy couple of months training leading up to the National Outdoor Championships in August where they all hope for success in their respective age groups.

The added pressure on the girls will be that they are all in the same Under 16 age group and due to come up against other promising young ladies from the other 35 clubs in the Country.

In N.Ireland there are competitive shoots held almost every weekend throughout the province where Novices and more experienced Archers can take part.

The highly successful Causeway Company of Archers also have other members of the club knocking on the Team Selectors doors with several of the boys attending regular shoots and finishing in the top three places.

Recently, there has also been a huge interest in beginners courses with three new courses starting within days of each other. The first of these courses finished last week with all participants successfully completing their assessments and receiving their certificates.
