Causeway net all three points

THIS week saw both Causeway teams take to the court again, first up were Causeway firsts eager to continue their winning streak, hosting Banbridge on Tuesday evening.

This was followed on Thursday evening when the seconds faced local rivals, Seven Towers at home.

Causeway firsts, having won their previous two games were eager to take all three points from Banbridge and they done so on an impressive scoreline of 66-39. The team took to the court and found themselves netting 12 goals to 2 by the end of the first quarter. This scoreline encouraged the players to further their lead and they did so through accurate shooting from Joanne Lennox and Oonagh Mc Crossan. The defence of Noelle Rea and Brenda Boyle worked tirelessly around the circle to keep the Banbridge attackers out of the circle and this paid off as the lead grew greater. Strong centre passing from Maria Doherty allowed Karla Cooke to feed the ball into the shooters, again increasing their lead.

A few positional changes at the start of the 3rd quarter allowed for a pair of fresh legs to take to the court as Causeway furthered their lead with Banbridge proving to be no real threat.

The shooters held their space in the circle and converted the shots into goals. Samantha Nicholl held her player well as the defence “zoned” to minimise Banbridge’s chances in the circle.

At the risk of becoming complacent with their lead, Causeway kept their heads and added a few extra goals, however Banbridge retaliated and scored a few consolation goals as Causeway ran out winners on a final score of 66-39.

This week, the girls have no match but a friendly has been organised against the UUC team, on Monday evening.

Both teams played well up to the first half especially Causeway, by intercepting the ball off Seven Towers at their centre passes, and also working the ball well into the semi circle for shots to be taken.

At half time Causeway were well in the lead with a score of 23-8.

Causeway kept the talent up in the third quarter, and the score just kept going up. In the final quarter, Seven Tours began to play some good Netball, by making more accurate passes and shots, but after a long 15 minutes, Causeway came out on top with a great score of 47-19. A great win for Causeway! Thank you to our umpires Joanne Lennox and Brenda Boyle.
