Causeway were slow out of the blocks in the first quarter and despite being overrun by a young Donaghadee side they managed to end first the quarter in the lead, Causeway 10 – Donaghadee 8. Donaghadee continued to execute every goal opportunity and so Causeway’s Mary McCollum GK, and Noelle Rea, GD had to up their game to maintain Causeway’s lead. A combination of excellent shooting by Joanne Lennox, and strong support play from Oonagh McFerran, GA saw Causeway finish in the lead at half time 24 – 16.

The introduction of Tara McLaughlin in GD at half time enabled Causeway to gain a strong hold of the game. The Causeway Centre court pairing made up of sister’s Brenda Boyle, WD and Anna Boyle, Centre demonstrated their superior fitness levels by out-tiring and ever more weary Donaghadee.

With Causeway entering the final quarter with a 37-28 lead it was looking inevitable that they would gain maximum points. A much more confident team performance coupled with Causeway’s in-form rising star Stephanie Gillen, WA pulling the strings resulted in Causeway finishing the game 46-36.

Causeway II suffered a tough defeat away to Clann Eire last Wednesday night with the final score 27 – 59.

Causeway II started the first quarter of their game demonstrating drive and determination shown by the whole team. Causeway, missing a few key players, had to adapt their game with Vicki Wharry starting out of position in GK. Wharry made some fantastic touches on the ball supported by Joanne Carey, GD.

In the second quarter Causeway found it difficult to get into the game which enabled Clann Eire to extend their lead. Causeway found it hard to get rebounds due to Clann Eire’s excellent shooters not missing many shots. Although there was some great interceptions from Shannon McGothigan, WD and Caris Robinson, C this was not enough to stop the Lurgan side creating some great shooting opportunities. Causeway shooters, Seanagh Wallace, GA and Chloe Craig GS done well when in possession but were often left isolated.

In the third quarter Causeway made some key changes with up and coming junior start Megan Ennis making her debut. Ennis demonstrated that she could hold her own and made some great interceptions within the shooting circle. Shannon McGothigan came into GA showing some great movement within the circle with Chloe Craig, GS making it easy for Caris Robinson, C and repositioned Vicki Wharry, WA to feed the ball into them.
