Caw edge nearer to promotion

Caw...................................3

Dungiven III.....................0

TITLE chasing Caw secured another three points after they defeated a well organised Dungiven III side, in near perfect conditions at Lisnagelvin, on Saturday.

For Caw nothing but three points would be acceptable, with their closest challengers Newbuildings United Res defeating strugglers Ballykelly.

Dungiven started well playing some good football and being physical. The home side were finding it hard to get into their rhythm and couldn't get their usual high tempo game going.

The Dungiven strike partnership of Eoghan and Chris Quigg were linking up well and causing some problems but they were well contained by the impressive Caw defence.

With clear cut chances few and far between and most of the football being played in midfield it was no surprise that the half ended scoreless.

The visitors started the second half strongly pressuring and harassing Caw all over the pitch not allowing them any time on the ball. Although they were stopping Caw from playing they were of no real threat to the Caw net.

Caw then began to up the tempo and started playing their quick pass and move game which began to create space all over the pitch, however it took until the 70th minute for them to finally break the deadlock when Kyle Armstrong finished off a fantastic move to put the home side one up.

From this point on it looked likely that Caw would get the points, an inspired substitution saw Kennedy come on to the right side of midfield, and no sooner was he on the pitch but he was on the score sheet.

A finely timed run into the box enabled him to meet a cross field ball with the inside of his foot and place the ball past the Dungiven keeper and into the net.

Caw were now well in the driving seat, and Dungiven changed to three up front to try and get something from the game in the remaining 10 minutes.

Even with three up front Dungiven still could not find a way past the Caw defence, and with them throwing everything forward they left themselves wide open at the back, the kind of situation that young Gary Harris loves.

He got the ball at his feet and showed blistering pace to get past the dungiven defenders and slip the ball into the net for Caw's third and final goal.

Caw proved too strong in the end but it took them 70 minutes to find a breakthrough which they won't be too happy about. Another impressive performance from the Caw defence saw the man of the match being awarded to centre half Jonny Lath.

This is the third game in a row that Caw has kept a clean sheet and they will be looking to continue this through their final games. With only seven points needed to secure promotion their remaining games will all be treated like cup finals.
