Cecil beats the opposition in Turkey opener at Ballycastle

THE weather was pleasant for the start of the Turkey season at Ballycastle Golf Club and Cecil Redmond was the top scorer at the weekend with a magnificent 46 points.

Cecil, playing off 23, was the clear winner of the section two stableford competition on Saturday with Conor Rooney in second place on 40 points and Michael Campbell in third on 38 points.

In the section one competition, Tony McConville was the winner with 39 points, just ahead of David Getty courtesy of a better back nine with Seamus Killough in third place with a total of 37 points.

Eamon McCarry won Sunday’s section one competition with a total of 43 points. Colm Hendrie was the runner-up with 42 points and Lawrence McQuillan was third also with 42 points.

Steven Devlin was in top form on Sunday and an exceptional front nine set him up for victory in the section two stableford with a total of 43 points. Raymond Brown finished second on Sunday with 40 points and Seamus Hegarty was third with 38 points.

The Open Stableford competition held at the club last Wednesday was won by Paul McBrearty with 41 points, ahead of James McConaghy on the back nine with Tony Connolly in third place with 39 points.

Lawrence McQuillan made a superb start in the Ringer competition on Sunday with an eagle at the par four 5th and birdies at the 3rd and 16th holes.

There are separate competitions on Saturday and Sunday this year and details of the weekly Ringer scores can be found in the results section of the club website.

Members still wishing to enter the Ringer competitions may do so via the Pro shop next weekend.
