Central and Daly’s battle to draw

With the leaders Brackaville having a bye this weekend it was the chance for other teams in the league to catch up. This was the final fixtures of the first leg of matches for the A-League.

Central A 2-2 Daly’s A

This week the match of the week was second v third in the league and with four points between them a win was vital for both teams.

With both teams on great form at the moment it was only right this match end in the draw. It keeps both teams in their same positions but two points closer to the league leaders.

Ceili House 4-0 Clonoe A

The Ceili House played host to a tricky Clonoe A side as they go in search of a win to put them back in the hunt for the title. Clonoe A were looking for a win of their own on their travels to move them out of the bottom two.

The home side got things started as Randy Hill (111) took a 3-1 win in the first game. The lead was increased in the second game with Sandy Hughes (4x100) winning 3-2. The Ceili House then guaranteed themselves at least a point when Mark Brady (100,2x139,2x140) won 3-1 in the third game. They then sealed the singles win with Niall McCaul (5x100,125) taking the fourth game 3-2. The singles were one-sided as the Ceili House won the points within the first four games.

The doubles was also one way traffic for the Ceili House as first S.Hughes/R.Hill won 2-0 before B.O’Hagan/M.Brady took the second game 2-0 to wrap up the doubles and overall match win for the Ceili House.

McCausland’s A 0-4 Quinn’s A

This was a local derby clashes this again, with Quinn’s A going on their travels trying to pick up a win to help their chance of breaking into the top four. McCausland’s just needed to make home advantage count as the fight to get off the bottom of the table.

The visitors got the ball rolling as Gene Skeffinton (2x100,2x140) won the first game of singles 3-2. Quinn’s then increased their lead in the singles with Nigel Loughran (100,125,2x140) winning 3-0 in the second game. Noel Loughran (3x100,3x140,180) won the next game 3-2, before Brendan McCann (3x100,105,125,2x140) won 3-2 in the fourth game to seal the singles points for Quinn’s. McCausland’s did restore some pride and got a reward for their efforts with Patsy Bell(3x100) winning 3-2 and Aidan Kavanagh (100,125,140) winning 3-0 in the final game to prevent a whitewash in the singles.

The momentum continued for McCausland’s into the doubles as P.Bell/A.Kavanagh took the first game 2-0. However the momentum ran out as I.McWilliamson/B.McCann and N+N Loughran took the next two games for Quinn’s. This gave Quinn’s the doubles and overall match win.

B-LEAGUE

Still only two points separate the top four sides in this league and all to play for every week. There was a clash between third and fourth this week, as elsewhere the draw specialists of the league also go up against each other at the other end of the table.

Quinn’s B 4-0 Central B

The debutants and current league leaders, Quinn’s were at home this week against the experienced Central B side. Could the Central B be the first team to defeat the leaders?

The home side got off to a good start with Martin Williamson checking out 72 on his way to a 2-0 win in the first game. The Central quickly hit back with Gary Scullion (100) winning 2-1 in game two. Quinn’s then finally found their finishing touches again as Micky Curran (105) with 93 check out won 2-0 in the third game to restore the lead. Declan Curran (2x100,135,140) then won 2-0 to increase the lead for Quinn’s before Niall Donaghy (2x100,125,140) sealed the singles win for Quinn’s as he won 2-0 in the fifth game. The Central made the score line look a little better with Brian Hamill (2x100) winning 2-0 in the last singles game.

Into the doubles and the home side continued their run of form with M.Curran/N.Donaghy winning 2-1 in the first game. The lead was increased in the second game with M.Donaghy/P.Loughran winning 2-1 to seal the doubles points before they added the final nail to the Central’s coffin with D.Curran/C.Morgan winning 2-1 in the final game of the night. So another win for Quinn’s as the unbeaten run continues and they hold on to top spot in the league.

Daly’s B 3-1 Derrytresk

This was second versus third in the league as both Daly’s and Derrytresk are both just a point behind the leaders going into this game. Something had to give, but would it be Daly’s unbeaten run or would they continue on their quest for the title?

Daly’s started the match of with Audi Waugh (100,120) winning 2-0 in the first game. Derrytresk hit back straight away with Eamon Conlon (3x100) picking up a 2-0 win. Tyrone O’Hagan (3x100,121) then won 2-1 in the third game to increase the lead for Derrytresk. Daly’s then tied the singles with Geoff Gillis (100,120,121) winning 2-0, before Derrytresk went out in front again with Alan Quinn (100,123) winning 2-0 in game five. So with the pressure on both players in the final game it was Brian Waugh (2x100) who came out on top winning 2-1 to tie the singles for Daly’s again and to split the points.

Into the doubles and Daly’s soaked up the pressure as G.Gillis/B.Waugh (2x100,121) won 2-1 in the first game. The home side then wrapped up the double’s points and won the match with M.Cartmill/D.McGurgan (3x100) winning 2-0 in the second game of doubles. Derrytresk got a little reward for their efforts as B.Fitzgerald/E.Conlon (100,121) won 2-0 in the final game of the night. That win keeps Daly’s unbeaten run going.

Central C 1-3 Fall’s

Fourth placed Fall’s only two points from the top of the table travelled into town to take on the Central C who themselves have been in a good run of form and slowly creeping up the table.

The Central C got things started with Kieran Morgan (140) winning 2-1 in the first game. The visitor then found their stride as Ronan Devlin (100) picks up a 2-0 win in the second game. Fall’s then took the lead in the singles with Sheamus Hagan (100,125,140) winning 2-0 in game three, before Conor O’Hagan (100,121) increased Fall’s lead with a 2-0 win in the next game. With the Central on the back foot Pat McElhatton (100,140) won 2-0 to pull one back as Martin Barrett (2x100) then picked up a 2-0 win in the final game to tie the singles and split the points.

Into the doubles and Fall’s put the pressure on the Central again with S.Hagan/R.Devlin winning 2-0 in the first game. They then wrapped up the doubles points with S.Devlin/P.Burns picking up a 2-0 win to secure a match win for Fall’s. The partnership of J.O’Neill/P.Doris (100,110,140) won 2-1 in the final doubles game for Central C. That win keeps Fall’s hopes alive as they move up to third in the league.

Clonoe B 2-2 O’Neill’s A

This was going to be a tough game for both teams as both teams have become the draw specialist in the league this year. Both with four draws in six games surely something had to give in this match?

The home got off to a quick start with Don Doris (100) winning the first game 2-1. O’Neill’s hit back with Stephen Magee (3x100) back on form winning 2-0 in the second game. The visitors then took the lead in singles with Raymie McKee (121) winning 2-0 in the third game. Clonoe then started to show again as Paul Coney (100, 2x125) pulled out a 2-0 win to tie the singles. Aidan Taggart then took a 2-0 in the fifth game to give Clonoe the lead as it came down to Gerard O’Neill (3x100) to check out 127 to win 2-1 in the final singles game and win the singles points for Clonoe.

The doubles started in a similar way with the visitors taking the lead with A.Donaghy/R.McKee (118) winning 2-0 in the first game. The doubles were quickly tied with P.J.Lavery/Sparky taking a 2-0 win in the second game. So with everything still to play for in the last game it was the team of S.Devlin/S.Magee (2x100,134,140) who won 2-0 for O’Neill’s to win them the doubles points. That became an expected result for this match as both teams leave with their fifth draw of the league this season.

3-A-SIDES

There will be no league games next week. This is because the annual 3-a-sides competition will take place in Quinn’s Bar. We ask that all teams entered into the competition be there at 8:30 for a 9:00pm start.

There are 17 entrants into this enters competition with all entry fee money being paid out to the winners, runner-up and semi-finalist’s. A trio from the Central A won this competition last year can they come back and defend their crown?
