Central just miss out in the nationals

Banbury Central bowed out in the inter-county stage of the EWBA National Top Club competition against Burnham, who have won the national title twice.

Carole Galletly got the first point winning the singles 21-14. The triple of Eloise Jones, Mo Cox and Helen Young recovered well from an early deficit of 1-11 to keep the game close with a 13-20 result.

Pam Shepherd and Caroline Campion also recovered from early setbacks finding themselves 4-12 down after nine ends in the pairs. They picked up a six and a four to get themselves in the lead at 12 ends and the game was closely contested with Central picking up the last three ends to win 21-17.

Central’s rink of Melody Sykes, Anne Norton, Gill Sharpe and Annie Gilkes came back from a deficit of eight shots to play the final end only four behind. But the opposition skip snatched it to win 23-18 score which gave Burnham the match by one shot.
