Chambers siblings compete in Romania

They had a good victory in the opening round against Nick Marcoen and Flore Vandenhoucke of Belgium 11-9 11-7 11-8 before making an exit to Pawel Pietryja and Aneta Wojkowska 11-7 11-6 11-4 who progressed to the semi-finals.

In the women’s singles Sinead narrowly missed out on a place in the semis with her partner Jordan Hart (Wales).

Ciaran partnered Ryan Stuart in the mens doubles and they were to record a five-set victory over a Czech pair in round one but faced a Romanian pair in the second and won in four sets before exiting to the top seeds from Croatia.

Niall’s busy six months start in Spain

The past six months have been disappointing for Ireland’s World and European para badminton champion Niall McVeigh who had previously been virtually untouchable at the helm of a sport which is set to make its debut at the 2020 Olympic Games.

The 24 year old has been putting the finishing touches to his preparations for this week’s Spanish International Championships down at Lisburn Racquets Club with his coach Andrew Stewart.

Niall explained that from now until the World Championships in September there will be no breaks.

“This is going to be a busy six months for me and I am really looking forward to the Spanish International in Alcudia. There are a number of things I have been working hard on with my coach Andy (Stewart) since my last tournament when I allowed my concentration to lapse a little.

“I really need to be on top of my own game. I have to be better prepared than ever before, so I have decided that I will only be competing in the Mens Singles event of the Short Stature 6 class in future,” he said.

Niall is looking forward to putting into action a number of these routines in Spain after which he will be getting as much practice as he can in a Graded tournament down in Limerick prior to the English 4 Nations in Sheffield in June followed by an International in Dublin.

The Welsh 4 Nations will be held in August before his attention will home in on the World Championships to be staged in Stoke Mandeville in mid September.
