Champions off to great start

THE Craigavon District Darts League sponsored by Bailie Amusements returned this week and champions Drumgor started off their season with a comfortable 7-1 win over new team Trojans.

First up was Pearse Richardson who was relieved to scrape through 2-1 over Joe Mc Gahan who missed doubles for the win in a tightly contested match. Marty Craig then put Drumgor 2 up with a 2-0 win over Tony Rutherford snr. It was quickly 3-0 when Clive Hanna hit a superb 15 darter on way to his 2-0 win over Shea Rutherford. There was no way back when Stevie Duff hit two 19 darters over Rob Lewis and Shane Lennon hit a maximum 180 on way to a 2-0 win over Paul Lewis in an impressive 18 and 21 darts. Paul Lennox then made it six games on the trot with a 21 darter and a 2-0 win over Andrew Fairbairn. Eamon Duff continued the winning streak with a 2-1 win. It was Seany Farren who stopped the whitewash when winning 2-1 over Dee McCready.

The INF club were pushed all the way by a much improved Clann Eireann and finally took the victory with a 5-3 win. It all started well for the INF when they raced into a 3-0 lead with Martin Crossan , Stevie McConnon and Lee Culbert all winning 2-0 over Johnny McAtamney, Ciarán Padraig McMahon and Kevin O’Loan respectively. Niall McCluskey pulled a set back for Clann Eireann with a 2-0 win and when Mark Magee beat Vincey Culbert snr 2-0 it was all to play for. Terry Morrow hit a 180 beating Mick Hendron 2-0 to steady the ship and put INF 4-2 up, but Joe McCabe took the match to the last game when beating Paddy Magill 2-1. It was team captain Seamy Tallon who secured the victory when beating Chris Magee 2-0 with a 18 darter.

In the other two games the Celtic defeated the Railway Bar 7-1 with Mick Millar hitting a 180 and Dave McCusker recording the highest check out of the week with an excellent 146. New boys The Premier showed they will be a match for anyone this season with an impressive 4-4 draw with Eire Og with the main talking points being Mo Campbell getting the better of good friend and rival Paul McGahan 2-1, Noel Dunwoody checking out a 120 for Eire Og and Keith Beale hitting a 15 darter to earn the draw for the Premier. Stables Bar had a bye.
