Champions take two points from Latharna

Champions St Comgall’s visited Latharna in midweek and left with just two points in what was a close match.

Raymond Weir made a 36 break in his victory over Joe Gribben, while on the other table, team manager Anthony McCorry won against George McGregor to level the match.

Ciaran O’Toole was unfortunate in his narrow defeat to Billy Millar, while on the other table, Latharna took a 3-1 lead when Gavin Carmichael (30, 20) sunk the black ball to beat Alphonsus McIlwaine (23) who had taken all the colours.

In the final frame, Shaun McAlister landed breaks of 25 and 38 to secure a win over Ken McCord in what was a hard-fought frame.

Ballyclare Golf Club ‘A’ sit three points behind Latharna after a 4-1 success against Carrick GC ‘A’. Trevor Mairs, Johnnie McKay, David Lyness and Tommy Bamber all won, with Derrick Newell responding for the visiting side.

The Point also sit on 57 points after a 3-2 away win at Greenbank ‘B’. Graham Ferguson, Gary McNeill and Eddie Carson pocketed frames with I. Adrian and Roy Johnston winning for Greenbank.

Q-Club ‘A’ netted a 3-2 win against Carrick ‘B’ thanks to R. McKillop (25), Michael Kane (20, 23) and Andy Lilly. Carrick’s frames came courtesy of Colin Spence and Mikey Jones.

Elsewhere, Darren Vennard (30), Jackie Hogg and Declan McClean (31) claimed victories as Ballyclare Old Boys defeated Greenbank ‘A’ 3-2.

Adam McIntyre (27), Jim Crockard and Ian Wallace took their frames in a 3-2 win against St John’s, while Linfield defeated Q-Club ‘B’ 4-1.
