Charging Steede lands fourth Twin Peaks title in a row

DEFENDING champion Jonny Steede blitzed the opposition last week to carve out a clear cut victory in Glenravel Festival’s Twin Peaks cross country.

Seeking to win a record fourth title in a row, Steede led from start to finish and was never seriously threatened.

His recent dominance of the Credit Union sponsored event was emphasised by the fact that he finished well over a minute clear of his team mate Emmet Mc Allister who held second place from the start and was never really challenged.

Taking up third place was local runner Peter McToal who would be more of an endurance specialist.

Promising youngster David Higgins came fourth to finish second in the local class while Glenariff’s Mark O’Connor carried off the under 18 category with a narrow victory over Shaun O’ Boyle.

Connor McAllister easily won the u-15 boys from Sean Pól McKenna. First veteran home was Cushendun’s Brian McAuley with his namesake from Glenariff in the runner up spot.

The best of the ladies was Jenny Magill but the outstanding performance of the whole event was young Rachel Brown who was the first local lady from her U-15 category. Rita McCollum walked away with the female veteran prize.
