Charity cycle ends season

Club members collected sponsorship and made their own personal contributions to this worthy cause. In showery weather the group headed for Newry stopping off at the hospice for a picture, before heading through Warrenpoint and over the steady gradient through Rostrevor Forest to the foot of Spelga Pass.

The sun came out mid-morning and the climb up Rathfriland Hill ensured that everyone was well warmed up. The return to Lurgan made it a round trip of around sixty five miles and a bit more for those living in surrounding areas. For the Apollo cyclists it had been a great way to end the ‘so called summer’ on the roads and the most important thing was that over £500 pounds had been raised for the hospice.

Of course the more hardy, or maybe foolhardy Apollo cyclists will continue to cycle each weekend from Lurgan police station, leaving at 9.00am on Saturdays and 9.30am on Sundays. New members will be made most welcome.

Next Sunday, October 7 the club is hosting the first Ulster cyclo-cross race of the season in Lurgan Park with racing beginning at 11.00am.
