Charity stablefords at Castlerock

THERE were two charity Open Stablefords to report from Castlerock Golf Club this week.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institute benefited from a well supported competition at the end of August. Billy Turner (14) did not need any rescue as he gathered a massive 45 points tally to win the day.

Three over gross for the front nine was followed with a two over gross coming back and a win by three points from James Richardson (18) who matched Billy’s inward haul of 23 but had carded a more modest 19 out.

Robin Bell also recorded 42 points but his back nine of 20 meant he had to be content with third spot.

Best Gross card for the day was from four handicapper William Hewitson, with 41 points, while Portstewart’s Boyd McNeill returned a creditable 39 points to lift the Visitor’s Prize.

And it was a family affair at Castlerock Golf Club at the weekend, Teddy McMullan picked up the Senior title on President’s Day and son Stephen wins the Hospice Charity Stableford Day on Sunday.

Stephen plays off 11 and returned a super 43 points to finish two clear of another eleven handicapper Bill Troland who posted 41 points.

Linda Creaney won the ladies prize with her 29 points haul followed by Noleen Howard who netted 21.
