They couldn’t manage as convincing a score-line as the hosts were keen to avenge their club-mates but South still edged through 2-1 thanks to a late Chris Moulden winner.

South took the lead from the first penalty corner on 15 minutes, sweeper Andrew Brown netting. South kept the pressure on for the remainder of the half but could not increase their lead.

The experienced Bangor side started the second half the stronger of the two sides and forced keeper Sloan into action. Eventually their pressure paid off and they equalised from a penalty corner.

Bangor continued to press with South trying to counter attack. With time running out and extra time looming, young Cain Brown got the ball on the left and played it to stalwart John Massey in the 25. He slipped the ball to Chris Moulden who dribbled into the circle past two defenders and flicked the ball past the advancing keeper.

Two minutes later the final whistle went and a relieved South team progressed to the semis in two week’s time.
