Chujo karate club to start in Portglenone

THE hugely successful Chujo Karate Association, founded by Ballymena man Dan Redmond, is to spread its wings even further.

Having already run successful clubs in Ballymena, Ballymoney, Coleraine and Rasharkin, Chujo Karate Association has decided to open a new karate club in Portglenone.

The venue will be Portglenone Community Centre and the club will commence on Thursday, January 6, 2011.

Children’s class will be from 7pm until 8pm. The minimum age for children to train at the club is five years years old. Teenagers and adults class will be from 8pm until 9.30pm.

No special clothes are needed to start karate. A tracksuit or a t-shirt and loose fitting trousers will be acceptable for the starting lessons and gis/suits can be ordered from Chujo Karate Association via the club at very reasonable prices.

The style of karate taught at the club is Wadoryu. This style is one of four man styles taught throughout the world.

Chief Coach of CKA Sensei Dan Redmond 7th Dan has chosen two of his top coaches to take charge of the new club.

Steven Surgeoner 4th Dan has represented Northern Ireland at International level. He has also held the post of National Coach. He is a level 4 CKA Coach.

Assistant coach with Steven will be Laura Burns 1st Dan. Laura also teaches at Rasharkin Community Centre, Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre, Seven Towers Leisure Centre and Coleraine Leisure Centre.
