Ciaran wins Wheelers Hill Climb

BANN Wheelers held their final club event of the year, their annual Hill Climb on the Cranagh Hill on the outskirts of Coleraine.

Twelve riders participated and Portstewart man Ciaran Mullan followed his recent road race success by taking victory in a time of four minutes and two seconds.

Chris M Intyre was a close second, just six seconds behind Ciaran. These two riders have certainly impressed in this their first season of racing.

Third was last year’s winner Mark Wilkinson in 4.17. Damien Hazlett rounded off an impressive first season by taking fourth in 4.30.

James Thompson produced an excellent ride finishing fifth in 4.38, Richard Boyd took sixth place in 4.42 another excellent ride. Colm McIlfatrick and Nigel Kerr produced solid rides finishing in 4.50.

Robert Downes produced a gutsy performance, returning from injury to pass the timekeeper in 5.07.

Newcomers Davy Black and Ian Morrell picked a difficult event to introduce themselves to the sport with times of 5.15 and 5.22 respectively, Jack Hutchinson closed his season with a time of 5.44.

* Dominic Drumm of the Bann Wheelers finished fifth in the Cycling Ulster Vets League, which was held in conjunction with the Dave Kane TT League.

This was an excellent finish for Dominic as he did not compete in all of the events, However, Dominic did put in some solid rides on difficult nights during the competition.

Well done Dominic and this may be one to concentrate on next season.
