City hosts Boccia event

With teams descending on Lisburn from across Northern Ireland, it was The Manor Aces Boccia team who emerged victorious at the Disability Sport NI Senior Boccia Championships.

The Armagh based team came through the competition in stunning style, winning the final against the MS Rollers (Portadown/Craigavon) 6-0, whilst the Fit 4U group from Craigavon took the 3rd/4th place play-off with a close fought 3-2 win over the Craigavon Jacks.

Thirty-two teams in total from all over Northern Ireland competed in the event organised by Disability Sport Northern irert Northern Ireland

Boccia is a bowling game played from a seated position and can be played by people with disabilities as well as non-disabled.

It is a game of skill, touch and precision and was developed originally for people with Cerebral Palsy and is played right up to Paralympic level.

Disability Sport NI run the Ulster Boccia League which sees teams from across NI hosting monthly rounds of games in their locality and gives people with disabilities the opportunity to participate and compete in regular competitions.
