CITY OF DERRY: Richard McCarter positive despite poor start

Having lost to Belfast Harlequins and Ballymena in their opening two games of the season, McCarter is hoping to they can get a morale boosting performance.
“We have had a tough start to say the less and then Saturday against Banbridge is probably the toughest outing of the lot,” he said,
“There has been positives from the last couple of games and that’s what we have to focus on and yes we have to try and fix some of the things we are doing wrong but everything is really just about Skerries in the AIL the following weekend.
“That is what we are building towards and that’s all what really matters.
“I’m sure there will be some positives from the Banbridge game but these first three games we have just targetted as competitive pre-season friendlies, because we haven’t had any friendlies, because of the obvious head coach situation.

“Our first contact game was against Ballymena and we are playing teams who are two leagues above us, so yes it’s easy to look at the score-board and think it’s all doom and gloom, but when you take things into concentration.

“Like the standard of the opposition which we are playing but we are looking at the bigger picture.”
McCarter, who admits that ex-Ulster Academy coach Stephen Douglas has been a big help, should have a few players back from holiday commitments over the next few weeks.
