Clady anglers mourn passing of Patsy

The new fishing season has begun in earnest for the members of Clady & District Angling Club.

Already this season will be different for many of the club’s members with the recent passing of accomplished fisherman, dedicated committee and club member Patsy Sargent.

There were not many people who have fished the river who didn’t know him.

Patsy has been a great stalwart of the club and spent many hours maintaining and cutting the grass around the club house and always being on hand when help was needed - he will be greatly missed by all.

The club passes on its deepest sympathy to the Sargent family at this time of loss.

The first competition of the season took place on the 7th March for the Clady & District Cup.

The winner was J. Nelson with 2 trout for 1lb 14oz, runner up G. Webb with 2 trout for 1lb 4oz.

All members are reminded that membership must be renewed by the 31st March after which membership becomes invalid.

Please note Club ID card, season permit and DCAL licence must be carried at all times while fishing as bailiffs will be checking.

The new competition season comes just a few week after the club’s recent AGM, where members looked back on the events of 2014.

The chairman welcomed everyone to the meeting, the minutes of the previous AGM where read and accepted. The chairman reported on the successful 2014 fishing season and the various work projects that had been completed throughout the season. Special thanks were made to all committee and club members who carried out much work along the river in 2014 especially those maintained the club house grounds.

The election of office bearers was carried out by Davy Gordon and this saw all out going office bearers and committee re-elected.
