The group stages saw Clann na Banna come up against Rostrevor A and B, An Ríocht, Longstone and Warrenpoint. It produced some great performances from the young Bann team.

The return of Darragh McGrath, Jack Maguire and a debut for U6’s Reese Berry all strengthened the Bann team. Some great defensive performances in the group stages from Cian Gregg and Shea Malone meant Clann na Banna gave very little away.

The Bann forwards were equally impressive with Adam Maginn, Aodhran Devlin and Conor McKee difficult for the opposing teams to handle.

At the end of the group stages Clann na Banna was pitted against Warrenpoint in the decider. This gave them the chance to avenge an earlier defeat in the group stages.

Bann started slowly and conceded two early goals before Eoin Campbell and Denis Kerr got on top in defence and allowed Bann a platform to push forward.

A point a piece from Liam Vaughan and Taylor Hill got Clann na Banna on the score sheet, then as the confidence grew, a goal from Donal Scullion put Bann back in contention. Bann stood strong defensively and Taylor Hill grabbed a second goal to put them two points up.

Clann na Banna kept possession well and a cynical foul from Warrenpoint allowed Donal Scullion a free which he converted to put them three in front. Warrenpoint couldn’t find the goal they needed to draw the match level as the young Bann team stood firm.

As the final whistle went the Clann na Banna players were able to celebrate their first trophy of the season.
