Clann na Derg get off to opening day win

Clann na Derg 3-10, Glenn 2-13

Clann na Derg under 12s met with Glenn at home in the first game of the U12 league. The local side got off to a good start with a Celem Meara point and a long lob from Sean Casey found the back of the net. Glenn soon found themselves level again with a number of well taken points. An Eoin Scullion goal was met with another from Glenn. Further points from Niall Lennon and Celem Meara still found them 3 points behind at half time due to consistent possession and point scoring from a well-disciplined Glenn side.

The second half saw Clann na Derg find their feet again and starting to learn from their opponents’ retention of the ball. Points from Casey, Meara and a Keelan Quigley goal saw the home side take a lead but a Glenn goal from a penalty brought them right back into it. ‘Derg had two goals disallowed with infringements in the square. A tense final ten minutes saw points traded with Eoin Scullion, Celem Meara and a well taken point from Conal Diamond keeping the U12s in the running. A draw seemed a fair outcome at the final whistle. Lessons to be learned for the season ahead.
