Clann na Derg U12s notch up their first win

CLANN na Derg U12 hosted Drumgath in game three of the league on Sunday.

With a draw and loss in the two previous games, the local side were keen to register their first win.

With some good sequences of play making use of the long ball into the forward line, they started off well with an Eoin Scullion goal and point from Jack Moore. Drumgath soon came back with two points and took the lead with a goal.

Keelan Quigley scored the equalising point but this proved to be the last conversion of the half for Clann na Derg as they watched the visitors take two futher goals and two points to leave the locals in disarray at the mid-way point.

To add to their misfortune Celem Meara was sent to the side line for a heavy challenge having previously picked up a lot of Clann na Derg’s possession.

The second half saw some changes in the Clann na Derg side with Callum McConville coming out of nets to full forward. After a Quigley point, McConville showed his versatility with two goals. Drumgath answered with a point which turned out to be their last score of the match.

Keelan Quigley took another goal to edge the locals ahead by a point. It looked like Clann na Derg were intent on squandering point opportunities as they tried unsuccessfully for goals.
