Clanns face tough test

Clann Éireann will face their toughest test of the season when they travel to the Athletic Grounds to play an emerging Grange side in the Intermediate Championship semi-final on Sunday, 5.00pm throw in.

The Lurgan side were not at their best last time out when they had to pull out all the stops to overcome a dogged Mullaghbawn side who despite threatening little on the scoreboard forced Mark Beattie’s side to dig deep.

The Shore road outfit had a bloodless victory over Wolfe Tones in the opening round which was followed by another comfortable win over Lisummon a win which set up a last eight appearance, this Sunday’s clash with Grange will no doubt provide the Lurgan club with a yardstick on their progress to date.

Clann Éireann have a decent blend of youth and experience in their side at present, some of their more experienced players showed their quality last time out including David McKernan at the centre of defence who was well supplemented by Shay Heffron at full back.

Conor Bell’s work ethic this season has enhanced his reputation and with the Clann’s playing Ryan Henderson in a central role the sides younger players like James McDade, Jack Wilson and John Magee have been given room to blossom.

Grange, who will line out with Armagh player Ethan Rafferty in their side, had a decent Minor team this season will be boosted by the fact that they moved through to Sunday’s semi following a hard fought win over Middletown.
