Clans are 'B' champs

THE Clan na Gael club, who open their Senior Championship campaign on Sunday against St. Patrick's Cullyhanna, received a timely boost last weekend when they beat a strong Pearse "gs team in the All-County 'B' final.

The Blues have been very strong at Reserve level this season, boosted by former Armagh players John Campbell and Diarmaid Marsden, but their side also contains a number of talented young players.

Campbell converted two penalties for the Clans in the final with Marsden shooting the other goal in the 3-10 to 0-11 win.

Clans Goalkeeper Declan McGeown made a couple of great stops against Pearse g and both Mel Patterson and Tony Hamill were particularly impressive.

Meanwhile, the Clans Senior team will be without both Steven O’Hagan and Chris Taylor for Sunday’s Championship tie with St. Pat’s. Ronan Austin is back from injury but will probably need more games to reach full match fitness.

Clann ireann play an on-form Maghery team at Derrytrasna on Saturday night and it will be interesting to see how both Crossmaglen and Pearse g handle their Championship games against Carrickcruppen and Mullaghbawn respectively.
