Classic Casey brace bags first win of the season for defensively sound Armoy on the road to PSNI

Two first half tries in as many minutes were enough to guide Armoy to their first win of the season.

However this win could be more attributed to some very stout work in defence in a match that saw the Lime Park men spend long periods of the match camped deep inside their own half.

From the kick off the home team had Armoy on the backfoot. Yet despite this pressure the men from Lime Park held firm only conceding three points from a penalty in the opening 15 minute barrage.

It was now Armoy’s turn to apply some pressure of their own, a penalty was kicked into the corner and from the resultant line out the Armoy forwards found themselves 1 meter from the PSNI try line.

The PSNI defence held firm repelling both Mickey McGaughey and Neil Porterfield respectively. However a short pass from Alex Henry from the base of the ruck fell nicely into the hands of Enda Casey who crashed over for a try which was converted by Eoin Scullion.

Armoy didn’t have long to wait for their next score, from the kick off the ball was caught by Enda Casey 15 meters inside his own half. He evaded six would be tacklers like a Giraffe running through a pride of lions. He then showed a clean pair of heels to the PSNI winger and a very efficient hand off to the covering centre saw him cross the line for his second score in as many minutes.

The second half saw the PSNI camped inside the Armoy half for 30 out of the 40 minutes. However this week the Armoy defence showed no signs of capitulation like it had done in previous weeks.

For all there pressure the PSNI could not get the score their play probably deserved thanks to some strong defending from Sammy McMullan and Paul McToal who managed to hold up the PSNI attackers on the two occasions that they did cross the white wash.

The only score of the second half was from a penalty which brought the home team to within six points. However the men from Lime Park held firm and collect their first win of the season.

After the match an elated captain Mark Donald thanked each and every player for a great performance and urged everyone to make it to training and to use this performance as a platform to build on for this week’s home match against Antrim RFC.
