Classy Currie hits hat-trick

Rainey Ladies II 5 PSNI II 0

Rainey HC II continued their winning streak on Friday night with a 5-0 win over PSNI.

An early goal from Shauna Donald helped to settle Rainey’s nerves. Despite this advantage, Rainey seemed subdued at times, with difficulty gaining momentum in attack and allowing PSNI to put pressure on the defence.

Fortunately Rainey defenders Sarah Barfoot and Kathryn Stewart were able to close down any attacking breaks by PSNI.

Rainey doubled their lead before half time, to create a platform for an improved performance in the second half. Rainey’s right winger made a powerful run from the halfway line into the circle where Emma Currie dribbled the ball past the goalkeeper into the net to make it 2-0.

The second half saw an invigorated Rainey team, who displayed tight passing between Karla Garvin and Danielle York in defence and midfields Ciara McNally and Emma Leslie.

Emma Currie scored twice more to make a hat-trick and secure Rainey’s 4-0 lead. The final goal came from skilful play by Lindsay Morrissey and an expert finish by the right wing. Rainey remain top of the league in Junior 8.
