Clean sheet debut for Sarsfields goalkeeper Tyler

Sarsfields have the unique distinction of being the first Armagh Senior Club to see action this season as they defeated Brian Og’s GFC Steelstown 3-07 to 0-13.

Two opening scores from Mark Foley to put the Og’s two points ahead, soon to be returned from two equalising points from Sarsfields’ Thomas McAlinden.

Goals from Paul McGaughey and Niall Kerr along with points from the Og’s Conan Doherty and Neil Forrester sent both teams into half time with Sarsfields leading 2-2 to 0-6 points. The second half was opened by an impressive long range point from substitute Paul McGeown and another two points from Thomas McAlinden.

The Og’s responded well in the second half with scores from Neil Forrester and Eoghan Heraghty though with five minutes remaining, a pass from Johnny Reynolds ensured Paul McGaughey sent another ball into the net to give Sarsfields a comfortable lead throughout. Good luck to Ruairi Blaney, James Mc Alinden and Sheelin Breen who will be representing St Michael’s Lurgan, and to Oisin Smyth representing St Patrick’s Armagh in the Ulster Schools Cross Country Championships next week.

Coaching for primary 1 and 2 boys and girls only will start in the hall on Wednesday 12 February from 7pm to 8pm. Gumshields to be worn by all children at coaching.
