Clogher keep up chase on leaders Loughmacrory

Second-placed Clogher worked their way into an interval lead of 1-7 to 0-8, Jamie Callaghan scoring the goal and the likes of Paul Tierney, Paddy McKernan, Mark Bogue and Ciaran Shields providing points.

Shane Mallon, Gary Reilly and St Mary’s team-mates ensured that Killeeshil stayed in close proximity to the Eire Og’s but a second Jamie Callaghan goal put vital space between the sides in the second 30 minutes.

Barry McKenna and others picked off home points as Clogher secured a win that leaves them four points behind table-toppers Loughmacrory but with a game in hand.

Hosts Castlederg made it two wins in as many outings when getting the better of North Tyrone neighbours Newtownstewart.

A Mark Corry penalty conversion and a Paddy Lynch major assisted Castlederg in reaching the half-time interval holding a lead of 2-6 to 1-5. Ryan Mayse also drove home a spot-kick on the opposite St Eugene’s side.

Mayse later brought his overall scoring tally to 1-7 during the final half but Stefain Gallen landed some fine points for a ‘Derg team that garnered further scores via Corry and Lynch to wrap up their win.

Four Fintona goals made life difficult for Drumragh and helped ensure that the Pearses maintained their top four push.

Niall Mellon, Kevin McGirr and Mark Donnelly struck for first half home majors, Gareth Starrs responding with a Sarsfields goal but the visitors found themselves 3-8 to 1-3 down at the break.

Bernard Cassidy, Conor McGoldrick and Thomas McGrath added Fintona points in the last half, McGrath goaling into the bargain for the home men despite the loss of Sean Connolly. Martin Taggart fired over seven points all told for Drumragh but they had too much ground to make up.

The guests sealed a third win of the campaign but had to survive a spirited second half revival effort from the Tones in order to do so.

Cathal McShane in chief, along with Brendan Boggs, Stephen Harper, Sean McBride and Stephen Dooher scored as Roes reached the interval 0-9 to 0-3 in front.

Drumquin set about redressing the scoreboard imbalance as play resumed, Frankie McAlynn, Ryan McCallion, Barry Glackin and Fintan McPhilomey landing points plus McFlynn netted. Owen Roes, though, did enough to hold on as McShane and Boggs hit scores in reply.

The league pace-setters returned to winning form but it was only in the second half that they opened up daylight on a battling Errigal Ciaran team.

Michael Harte, Emmet Quinn and Barry Donnelly provided the bulk of Errigal’s points as they headed for half-time only one behind at 0-7 to 0-6.

Ronan Ward led the away scoring charge as the St Theresa’s put the game beyond Errigal’s reach during the course of the second half, Kevin Gallagher, Sean O’Kane and several others landing points to complement the score-taking efforts of Ward.

The host St Mary’s denied Aghaloo to the tune of six points and thus maintained their hopes of a top bracket finishing spot.

Timing of this match, like many others, on the eve of the Tyrone-Mayo All-Ireland semi-final was not the most suitable but the teams got on with it and the St Mary’s were happy to record a win.

Ciaran Cuddy found the net for Aghaloo and Tiarnan Donnelly supplied four points, Gerard McCaughey and Kevin O’Gorman tagging on singles. Killyman, though, pressed on through Enda McGahan, Ryan McKenna and others with key scores as the St Mary’s stayed on the periphery of the leading league bunch.

It nearly turned out to be a first win for Errigal Ciaran Thirds in midweek at the St Patrick’s base but the Tatts pulled out enough points and just denied their guests that long-awaited inaugural win.

Michael Harte landed four points for the Dunmoyle men, Barry Donnelly and Emmet Quinn adding 1-1.

Tattyreagh, though, registered scores via the likes of Collie Harkin and Conor Taggart to record a narrow win leading into a busy spell of league and championship competitions to come.

The Red Knights continue to climb up the table, holding off a Tattyreagh team trying to do the same in the process at St Mary’s Park.

Tattyreagh had won narrowly against Errigal Ciaran Thirds in a midweek match but they lost out by a slender margin endeavouring to double up at Beragh as Collie Harkin and company battled to supply sufficient scores for the St Patrick’s.

Eddie Molloy and Martin Rodgers have been prominent on the scoring front for Beragh in recent games, the Knights attacking unit just supplying enough points to see Beragh pick up the league honours here.
