They defeated Poyntzpass British Legion by nine shots to eight. The Poyntzpass team were Elizabeth Gibson, Nora Kinnon and Walter Kinnon. Both skips were going for glory in the final end but it was a home win for Donaghmore. Beaten semi-finalists were Second and Third Rathfriland’s Gordon Johnston Ivan Johnston and Mervyn Johnston and the Glascar triple of Richard Waddell, Victoria Camlin and Jason Camlin.

During the evening, a cheque for 600 pounds was handed over to Marian Quinn of Southern Area Hospice Newry as a result of a collection during the competition by Jim McConville, Chairman of the Inter Church Committee. The ladies also gave everyone a lovely supper.

Next season, the competition will have been running for 25 years so that is surely something to celebrate. Jim McConville will have big plans for this special occasion.
