Club recognised with heart foundation award

GLENAVON Football Club has been recognised with a Heart Hero Award from British Heart Foundation (BHF) Northern Ireland, at its annual awards.

Based at Mourneview Park in Lurgan, Glenavon FC supported British Heart Foundation (BHF) Northern Ireland when Lurgan Chamber of Commerce held a meeting for all sports clubs in the area with Craigavon Heart Town, earlier this year.

The club came along to find out more about the work of BHF Northern Ireland. Following this, Glenavon FC invited BHF Northern Ireland to its open day, which enabled BHF Northern Ireland to reach a wider audience in providing information to help beat heart disease here.

The club ran a 50/50 sponsored walk – inviting their fans and supporters to walk up to 50 laps around the pitch at Mourneview and held a turnstile collection on the day of the match, resulting with a grand total of £500.

Glenavon FC was one of six Northern Ireland Heart Hero volunteer award winners. The awards were presented at BHF Northern Ireland’s Annual Conference held recently at the Civic Centre in Craigavon, providing the charity with the opportunity to recognise the great work of local volunteers.

BHF Northern Ireland Director, Marjory Burns paid tribute to Glenavon Football Club stating, “We would like to give a huge hearty thank-you to Glenavon Football Club and to all our supporters who have chosen to help the charity improve the lives of people living with heart disease in Northern Ireland.

“We are committed to beating heart disease together and it is the continued support of local volunteers and supporters that enables BHF Northern Ireland to take forward our vital work such as supporting 50 healthcare professionals across Northern Ireland.”
