CLUB SEEKS TO MAKE HISTORY

DROMORE RFC have established a new ladies branch of the club, giving girls an opportunity to play the game in the world, be trained by qualified coaching staff and play matches to a high standard.

They will commence their pre-season training on August 6 from 7-8.30pm, marking a new and exciting chapter in the club’s 80 year history.

Dromore’s Nigel Dale said, “We have been approached by seasoned players who have played in University teams at home and across the water for a chance to play for their home team.

“Various coaches from the club have said that as a developing club we should offer our facility’s to any girl young or mature to come to the club and build a team for the future.

“Myself and Claire Kidd have developed a coaching structure to develop all abilities and with our home grown players hope to build a team over the next few months and play friendly matches before entering into the Ladies League next Season.

“Dromore’s Club structure has not had the capacity to develop Ladies Rugby in the past, even though we had some Dromore girls represent Ulster in the 90s - they had to play their rugby at University.

“Now we have a very strong and newly named Dromore Youth Academy which incorporates Mini and Youth rugby up to U19 level. From here we have developed a strategy to build our senior teams from the Academy and become a stronger club because of it. Our new Ladies squads will also take on the same structure and over the next few seasons we will develop this further.”

- Dromore RFC pre-season training for senior teams takes place on Monday Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6.45-8pm for all existing players. The club would like to encourage anyone over the age of 18 who would like to try rugby as a new sport to come up to the training sessions and give Dromore Rugby Club a try.

- Youth pre-season training is on Wednesday nights from 6.30-8pm. Year 8 to U18s are encouraged to join in the sessions and try out rugby.
