Club well represented at interpro tournament

Jade McIlwaine, Ireland’s youngest senior umpire, officiated throughout the weekend and gained more experience in front of expert assessors, garnering great personal credit for herself and the town.

The eight players were integral in a clean sweep of trophies. Their closest rivals, Leinster, had their eye wiped in their own backyard.

And it was Bethany Barr who got the clincher with a deft flick to the netting in the Leinster game.

Hannah Grieve was in total control at the base of the Ulster team while Serena Barr and Penny Joyce, playing the last day with a broken thumb, tore holes in team’s defence.

All credit to Naomi Costley in making the squad after a severe hip injury.

The under 16s added the polish and without argument Kathryn Edgar and Alex Hurst were among the most influential players in the squad. Kathryn was the flying machine up front and Alex the never-say-die midfielder.

Young Clara Lennon got her first cap and was brought on to tighten up marking and provide vocal co-ordination and support.

Huge credit goes to the local schools and Lurgan Ladies HC for providing such talent for the province.
