Coleraine travelled to Co Down to take on a big, physical Donaghadee side who were looking to pull clear of the relegation zone.

Overall this was an impressive display by the visiting team against a side Coleraine have struggled to beat in quite a few seasons and the crucial bonus point was also secured.

Boyd was delighted with the performances of the younger players who weredrafted in for the game due to the unavailability of several regulars.

After the match the Head Coach was clearly happy with how the game went and the final score.

Richard said: “I am delighted with the performance of the boys and overall result today.

“I thought we played some exciting rugby throughout the game and looked as though we are getting back towards our best form which is important at this stage of the season.

“It was great to see John, David and Mac all making their senior debut for their local club and I was impressed with how they all coped with the step up.

“If the club want to progress links between the youth section and school are essential over the next few years and this is the way forward.”

Boyd is hoping for a big finish to the season with his side aiming to get back to Section One.

“Coleraine now sit in second position in the Kukri Qualifying League, Section 2, with two games to go.

“Two wins would secure promotion to Section 1 and that would be an outstanding achievement for this young and developing side.

“A second place finish in the league will secure a place in a promotion playoff against 9th place in Qualifying 1 away from home.

“For now we look forward to two massive games, at home to Carrick (April 2) and away to Enniskillen (Tuesday 5 April, 8.00pm kick off) and we will be working hard at training to ensure we are ready for both fixtures.

“I hope we get a big crowd down to support the side for their last home game on the 2nd April.”
