Coagh in trouble after Banbridge defeat

Coagh 2

COAGH’S woes continued on Saturday when they lost to Banbridge Town in another basement battle.

Added to Coagh’s misery was the sending off of defender David Calderwood in the second half. Coagh will now have to face Carrick on Saturday knowing they need to somehow accumulate points but with the goals dried up along with elementary defensive mistakes the Management may have to dip back into the transfer market before it closes at the end of the month.

There was little to say about Saturday's match, both teams missed chance after chance at either end failing to finish or get the final touch. On 35 minutes the visitors' Timmy Grant open his account with a snap shot from twenty yards which crept in at Pollock’s right hand post. Coagh had a penalty call moments before when referee R Hetherington finally gave in and awarded the spot kick after Lamont was hauled down. Jaime Gardiner stepped up to send David Wilton the wrong way.

Coagh started the second half brighter and missed three good goal opportunities on the trot. The visitors restored their lead on the hour mark after catching the home side on the break. Matt McCartan broke clear on goal and had three options to his left but the midfielder elected to shoot but when the ball came off Pollock’s feet Mark Terggert was on hand to slide the ball into an empty net.

From the restart the home side camped in the Banbridge half but again failed to convert good chances. On 76 minutes Coagh were caught on the break when Timmy Grant burst through with Calderwood on his tail.

The Coagh number four made the tackle that got him his marching orders and Banbridge the penalty kick. Grant dusted himself down to send Pollock the wrong way.
