Coleman agrees wage cut

The former Newry City stopper had a year to run on his deal at the club but has agreed a drop in wages as finances continue to tighten at Mourneview Park.

“We would like to thank Andy for agreeing to take a pay cut, even though he had another year to run on his current contract,” said boss Gary Hamilton.

“He could have sat on the money and refused to do it but he has taken the cut in order to come into line with the club’s highest earners. We have tried to have a set wage, which nobody gets paid any more than and Andy was one of the players who was over it. He’s agreed the cut though, and we would like to thank him for that.”

The number one spot on Glenavon’s team-sheet was fairly evenly divided between Coleman and Davy O’Hare last season, with Coleman picking up 20 league starts to O’Hare’s 18. Hamilton is looking for that competition between the two to continue into next season, having offered a new contract to O’Hare but the 40 year-old stopper has yet to accept the deal.

Hamilton said: “I’ve offered Davy a deal but we’ll have to see if he will accept it. We want to keep him at the club because he’s good with the kids and he’s a very good person to have around the place.

“We hope that he’ll stay on but at the same time, we would understand if he didn’t because the money is simply not there like it used to be.”
