Coleman stars for Toffees

FORMER Sligo Rovers full back Seamus Coleman is making an impact for Everton during the Toffees' tour of Australia.

Blues boss David Moyes said he was delighted with Everton's two goals as his team defeated Melbourne Heart 2-0. Everton, who have in recent years travelled to the USA during pre-season, have so far enjoyed their trip to Australia, which they were encouraged to visit by their talismanic midfielder, Tim Cahill.

The result was the second win of Everton's visit Down Under, and followed a 1-0 victory over Sydney at the weekend.

Killybegs man Coleman, who played at right back, again showed the attacking side of his nature, winning a penalty that Louis Saha missed, and setting up a goal for teenage star, Jack Rodwell. The play that led to that score had David Moyes singing his young stars' praises.

"I didn't think we played as well as we did against Sydney but we were aware it could be like that because of the travelling," Moyes said on evertontv.

He added: "We wanted to give people opportunities and a few of them got that.

"The first goal was a great goal. It was a great finish and good play by Seamus who also made the penalty.

"It was a good goal by Louis too and he needed that after the penalty."

When they return home, Everton are lined up for a friendly in Sligo.

Many fans posting messages on a fans' forum on Everton's official website want Coleman to be given a greater role in the forthcoming season.

After making an impact when he had a chance last season, Coleman was eventually loaned out to Blackpool, helping them win promotion to the Premier League.

To win a regular spot at right back, he has to beat off challenges by club captain, Phil Neville and Tony Hibbert.
