Coleraine Anglers Association AGM

The 45 members were welcomed by the chairman David Harkness. There were reports from the secretary Mark Henderson and treasurer Alan Morrow.

The association is in a good financial position at present with 188 members including 38 juniors which is a good sign for the future of the association.

There were good catches in each of the five club competitions held throughout the season. Garry Stewart retained the club championship with the most trout caught over all five competitions with a total of 50 trout (all returned), narrowly ahead of Paul Nash.

Andrew Laverty won the prize for the best junior over the season’s competitions and Barney McClean was the best senior angler. These trophies and the trophies for the monthly competitions were presented by the club’s president Willie Loughery.

The Association held a successful charity day in June. The competition on the day was won by J Boreland and Harry Simpson had the most trout by a junior. Wayne law took the best fish and C Moffat was the winner of the prize for the best trout by a junior.

There was a successful raffle and an impressive casting demonstration by Glenda Powell who is a casting instructor on the Cork Blackwater. A total of £650 was raised and presented to the charity Meningitis Research.Ten club bailiffs were appointed in July.

The secretary and treasurer both thanked Keith Creelman of Outdoor and Country Sports and Stephen Smyth of Smyths Country Sports for all their help during the year.

The Office bearers and committee are unchanged. The chairman wished all the members a successful season. Fishing on the both of the association’s fisheries, the River Rhee and Dunalis Reservoir starts on 1st March.
