Coleraine come out on top in top of the table clash

A brace of goals from Carol Ann Agnew gave Coleraine a hard earned win at Newry and consolidated their place at the top of the league.

In the top of the table clash it was Newry who created all the early pressure and with six short corners in the first half however heroic defending from Alice McGill, Ciara Richmond and Claire Adams along with Rebecca Crowe who was outstanding in goals kept the visitors forwards out and Coleraine in the game.

The turning point of the first came with the introduction of Carol Anne Agnew, immediately she created chances around the circle and scored the first with a tap in.

Wide players Zoe Campbell and Kelly Watt began to find more space and link well creating shooting chances for Agnew and winning short corners.

At half time Coleraine re grouped and looked a new team in the second half.

Agnew set up Niamh Tweedie for the second goal shortly after the restart and by now Coleraine’s midfield of Alex Balmer, Sue Nutt and Susan Chapman had control of the game moving the ball around midfield.

Right wing Niamh Lockhart continued her goal scoring run with a back post tap in after find build up play on the left from Zoe Campbell and Susan Chapman.

Soon after Coleraine had the game wrapped up when Sue Nutt hammered a short corner straight past the keeper to make it 4-0 to the Bannsiders on the day, but they weren’t quite finished just yet.

With a minute left on the clock Agnew scored her second after Nutt found her with a defence splitting pass and she rounded the keeper to make the final score 5-0 to Coleraine.

Player of the match was Claire Adams.

This was a tough test for Coleraine from a physical Newry side but again showed the character in the team.
