Coleraine edge out plucky Glebe

COLERAINE Assitant Manager Aidy McLaughlin admitted it took a half time ear bashing to get his side firing on Saturday.

The Bannsiders produce a low key first 45 minutes against Glebe Rangers at the Joey Dunlop Centre and deservedly went in one down at the break.

But a stern talking to by McLaughlin and David Platt produced a reaction in the second half as Coleraine grabbed a 2-1 win.

"It was a good workout for us but the first half was hugely disappointing," McLaughlin told Times Sport. "We never came out at all and I thought people were living off last week's success in Stranraer.

"We were a wee bit lower key in training this week as a few of the guys had picked up knocks and unfortunately it carried through to the first half today.

"We had a right go at half time and the second half was one way traffic really.

"You have to give the Glebe credit though. They played well in the first half and they did what they had to do by slowing the game down to their pace.

"They were in our box 15 times in the first half and they had eight corners so they were going for it.

"It could have been a lot worse for us at half time to be honest. We were so lethargic and kept giving the ball away nothing was working for us.

"But the second half was all about us and what we can do and we got two goals to win the game.

"Browner came on and did well and Johnny Harkness and Aaron Canning gave us a lot of options from full back in the second half.

"We cracked up a bit at half time but we were pleased in a way as we don't want this to happen in two weeks time."

It was the home side with several former Coleraine players on show who made the early running.

The Bannsiders' only real action was to replace Sammy Morrow after 14 minutes. The front man again suffering with a groin injury which he picked up in Scotland.

The Glebe almost took the lead directly from a corner with 16 minutes gone. Neil McVicker's set piece was missed by everyone and crashed off the far upright.

New signing from Institute, Craig McAllister was causing problems and he fired just over on 33 minutes.

Ten minutes later he opened up the Coleraine defence to tee up McVicker, who finished well.

Coleraine reponded after the break and found themselves in front in just before the hour mark.

Firstly David Scullion was upended in the box by Spratt on 58 minutes and Johnny Harkness fired home from the spot.

And two minutes later Scullion headed home from close range after some good work by Paul Brown.
