Coleraine ready for new season

Coleraine Bowling Club hosted their annual ‘Opening of the Green’ recently in front of a large crowd.

Assistant Secretary, Victor Dallas extended a warm welcome to all members, guests, sponsors and dignitaries before getting proceedings underway. Victor called forward President Jordan’s partner, Michaela Pollock, to throw the first bowl and officially open the green for play. Michaela threw the silver jack before delivering a ‘toucher’ with a bowl given to the club back in 1903. Vice-President, Jonathan Elder then presented Michaela with a bouquet of flowers on behalf of the club. Lady President Marjorie McColgan then delivered the jack and bowl, also getting a ‘toucher’ to open the green for the Ladies club. Marjorie was presented with a gift from Coleraine Ladies to thank her for the season ahead.

President Jordan Dallas and Vice-President Jonathan Elder donated a new club flag to the bowling club as their gift for their year in office before Past President Basil Kennedy presented Jordan with the flag. Jordan then raised the flag to complete proceedings outside.

The President welcomed MP Gregory Campbell, Mayor Cllr Michelle Knight McQuillan, IBA President Robert Madden, NIPBA President Noel Linton and PTWBA Lady President Jennifer Dowds to the ‘Opening of the Green’.
