Coleraine seek revenge

The Bannsiders are still licking their wounds after a midweek league mauling by the same opponents – the Bushmills boys pocketing all seven points in a runaway 104-63 victory.

It was a disastrous result, especially with the cup showdown on the horizon.

“It will make us even more determined,” said Coleraine’s Jordan Dallas. “Our form was exceptional up until Monday night – then the wheels came off. We topped the league table and were looking good.

“It was the first time in five years that a Coleraine team lost all seven points in a game. The boys were really disappointed with the performance. We must now forget about that result and focus on the cup final.

“We haven’t had our hands on the cup since we defeated Portrush in the final back in 2006. In fact, it’s been three years since our last trophy success – the Mullan Cup.”

Coleraine won at Portglenone before recording home wins over City of Derrry and Limavady to reach the decider.

“Apart from the Dunluce debacle, it’s been a very good season,” added Dallas. “I put it down to our close knit squad. The camaraderie and determination to do well for each other has been superb. It has been a major factor, helping us to nine wins on the bounce earlier in the campaign.

“We’ve also lost a couple of excellent players which hasn’t helped. Jonny Elder is back playing cricket, while Mark Broderick is travelling Australia – both are a big loss.

“Two young lads, Peter Irwin and Gareth McConnell, have been promoted from the B team and they have acquitted themselves well.

“Dunluce will have their tails up after their victory – it will be a big ask for our boys.

“But the game presents us with an ideal opportunity of grabbing a big of revenge – and also to bring a major trophy back to Lodge Road.”
