Coleraine take the bragging rights with league win

Over on rink one, Victor Dallas’ four had a very good win over Brian McAlary’s quartet.

It was a steady start to the game for the home rink as they took an early four shot lead before they extended it out to nine shots at the halfway stage, with a count of five on the seventh end helping the cause.

Matthew Steen, Noel Vauls, David Gaile and Victor kept pegging away to hold a six shot advantage with five ends remaining, before some fine play saw them clinch an excellent 23-12 victory.

The rink of Jordan Dallas, Trevor Steele, Basil Kennedy and Ian Ross had a hard fought battle against Willie McCaw on rink four. It was a miserable start to proceedings for the home quartet as they fell to an early 11-shot deficit, and it didn’t get much better as they soon trailed 1-19.

However, Ross’ men showed their grit and a good of scoring had them back to 11-19 just after the halfway stage in the match.

It was nip and tuck for the remainder as the visitors moved 12 shots clear with five ends to go before the Coleraine rink dug deep again and eventually slipped to a 24-16 defeat.

It was a good day at the office for Coleraine on rink two as Ally Davison defeated Alistair Steele. Paul O’Neill, Hugh McCallum, Mark Mason and Ally were a shot behind after five ends played before moving five shots in front at the halfway stage.

Davison’s men continued to play good bowls as they opened up a 13-shot margin after 15 ends of play, and it was that same margin they won by, claiming a superb 23-10 result.

Over on rink three, Jonny Calvin’s four lost out against Gary Kelly’s rink. Archie Robinson, Jimmy O’Neill, Owen Steele and Jonny were eight shots in arrears early on and it was extended out to 11 shots at the halfway stage.

At the 16 end mark, Calvin’s men were 12 shots behind before crashing to a 25-11 defeat. Coleraine rem ain in third in the NIPBA Senior League.
