Coleraine under-15's come out on top in five goal thriller

COLERAINE Under-15s entertained Draperstown at The Crescent on Saturday and started the game in positive fashion, putting the visitors under pressure from the first whistle.

Dario Morelli was a constant threat to the visitors defence and on 15 minutes he tricked his way past several defenders before picking out his strike partner Matthew Kirkpatrick who coolly finished from close range.

As half time approached the visitors were awarded a corner and when Coleraine only partially cleared, a Draperstown’s midfielder lobbed the ball back into the danger area and found the top corner.

Draperstown took the lead midway through the second half when the ball crossed from the right was finished off by the on-rushing striker. The visitors almost added to their tally but their young striker blazed over as the ball rebounded to him off the cross bar.

Coleraine’s keeper Ryan Buckley then reacted quickly to a Draperstown through ball and had the vision to pick out Matthew Kirkpatrick who turned and beat the keeper from 20 yards with a left foot shot.

Neither team were content with a draw in this keenly contested but nonetheless sporting encounter and it was Coleraine who secured victory with only minutes remaining as Matthew Kirkpatrick bagged his hatrick when he chipped the ball over the advancing keeper and into the empty net. Man of the Match: Matthew Kirkpatrick.

Both teams cancelled each other out in a goalless first half. Oscar Moffat-Clarke put the Academy in the lead after some good work from George Little and Ross Ritchie at the start of the second half.

The lead didn’t last long however as Ballysally soon equalised. Coleraine were struggling to break down the Ballysally defence and it looked as though they would have to settle for a draw, but Max Beattie popped up to fire them back in front again.

Jack Forgrave then secured the win with a great strike in the dying moments of the game. Man of the Match: Kori Doherty.

U11’s

Coleraine Alexandra produced an impressive performance away to Maiden City on Saturday. Coleraine controlled large parts of the first half and they deservedly edged in front as Corey McKeary released Issac Dunn who slotted past the home keeper. Connor Lundy thought he had made it 2-0, but his effort was chalked off for offside.

The Bannsiders were playing with great confidence but with seven minutes to go Maiden City grabbed an equaliser. This spurred the hosts on and with two minutes to go they hit Coleraine with a real sucker punch as they snatched a winner.

Man of the Match: Dylan Hull.

U12’s

It was a busy week for the Under-12’s and they took on Donemana at the Crescent on Saturday.

Coleraine started the brighter of the two teams and missed a host of chances against a very big Donemana Under-13 side.

The physical side of the game was always in Donemana’s favour but the footballing ability of the Academy team shone through and Lewis Ritchie could have scored a couple of goals before the half time whistle but for the Donemana keeper.
