Coleraine Under-16's play out a six goal thriller

PLAYING at a chilly but sunny Rugby Avenue the Coleraine Community Under-16's faced Institute who they lost to on their last encounter.

The local boys enjoyed the lion’s share of possession from the start with most of the play in the visitors half. Then against the run of play Institute opened the scoring. Moments later the Bannsiders replied with an equaliser when the keeper was beaten by a high lobbed ball from John McAllister.

Coleraine then went ahead from a corner which was headed home by Mark Donnelly.

After the break Coleraine were the team under pressure as the visitors pushed forward and were rewarded with a goal.

Twenty minutes in and the visiting keeper mishandled the ball and Gideon Cordiner was on hand to make it 3-2 to the home side. Late in the game after a scrappy goalmouth attack by Institute the visitors breached the home defence to level the match at 3-3.

Under-10’s

After a slow start last week, the Coleraine Academy team started well against Institute and Scott Weir put them ahead early on.

The team passed well and Ben White and Joel Greene got two goals each. Great passing from Kori Doherty resulted in Jack Forgrave getting his first goal of the season when he collected the ball and slipped it past the ‘keeper.

George Little and Paul Adams were strong at the back, not allowing Institute into the game. At half time changes were made with Ross Ritchie coming on and getting a goal. Institute then scored two quick goals but Matthew Clarke finished it off by scoring the seventh.

Coleraine Colts started brightly and soon got into their stride against Institute. They went ahead through Rhys Stirling when he stuck a freekick into the bottom corner. Coleraine were on top for most of the first half but couldn’t put their chances away and Rhys Carton was in good form in goals.

Institute equalised with the last kick of the game in the first half. Institute came out strong after the break and took the lead. Coleraine then added pressure for the rest of the game but were caught out with a quick break near the end making the final score 3-1 to Institute. Coleraine probably deserved more from the game with James Richmond, Rhys Stirling and Dylan Holmes giving their all, but were unlucky in the end.

Man of the Match – Dylan Holmes.
