Biggest mention must go to the Under 14s, who travelled to Newry for the first round of the Ulster Carpets U14 Cup. They played Newry twice already this season in the league being second best on both occasions.

This time it a was a different story coming away comfortable 34-14 winners and progressing to the next round.

This is very much a development side who started the season with only seven players, majority of the team are under-13s along with their Coach Uel McCreedy and youth convenner Jim Allen they have worked hard all season.

They now have a panel of 20 players, a lot who are experiencing rugby for the first time but are keen and loving their rugby.

This results shows how much they have progressed this season and with many remaining at this age grade for next season and some moving onto the under 16s, youth rugby would appear to be on the up at Rugby Avenue.

Having worked with Uel and Jim to help progress this team and looking back to last September we questioned if Coleraine would have an U14s for this season.

The boys have worked really hard playing against much older and more physical teams. Many had never played rugby before, coming from Soccer and GAA back grounds, but they have jelled as a great bunch with many of the more experienced especially Captain Alan Thomspon and his deputy Mason McLeister guiding and helping the new players.

With Alan, Mason and a few others moving up to the Under 16s next season we are again on the look out for new talent to help bolster what we hope is going to be a very talented side.
