College back to winning ways

LURGAN College got back to winning ways when they recorded a well deserved win over their Belfast visitors in blustery conditions on Saturday.

Despite playing into the wind on the first half, the College enjoyed long spells of possession and their forwards dominated through the endeavor of Ryan McCann and Aaron Carson.

Their hard work was eventually rewarded when they recorded the first points of the day through a penalty, from the returning Ben McIlwaine.

RBAI were unlucky not to score themselves soon after when they knocked on close to the line but the home side were good value for their lead as they defended stoutly through the tackling of Graeme Bell and Luke Thompson and kicking of Drew Davis.

In the second half the College closed the game down and as RBAI struggled to get the ball they gave away a number of penalties at the breakdown.

A fine kick into the corner was chased down by Ross Gardiner and as his team mates counter rucked to present good ball to Davis it was the scrumhalf’s quick thinking that provided a pass wide which eventually reached Chris Clague who touched down under the posts.

Best on the day for the College were Graeme Bell and Drew Davis.

The College face a tough trip to Ballymena this week to play Cambridge House.
