College in cup semi-final

The girls were focused from the start and ready to take on a very good side.

Both teams played well in the first half and it was a very even game with both Lurgan and Armagh putting the pressure on the opposing defence.

The Lurgan College midfield worked hard throughout the match and supported both the forwards and the defence.

Armagh had some chances to score however Lurgan College goalkeeper Suzie Horan made some excellent saves.

The College also had chances and an excellent shot from Julie Morrow resulted in a goal which put them in front at half-time.

Knowing that Armagh would be coming out very strongly to get back into the game in the second half, the Lurgan College girls were focused on increasing their own level of play and not just retaining the lead but increasing it.

Armagh were an excellent side and fought back hard. The defence worked hard and there were some excellent clearances by Sherrie Percy and sweeper Jenny Patterson.

An opportunity for Lurgan to increase their lead came when they were awarded a penalty corner. Unfortunately Armagh defended well and the score remained at 1-0.

This did not deter Lurgan College who were still looking strong enough to score their second goal.

Shannon Davidson was on top form as she sent the ball from free hits down the line and Katy McClune worked hard defending down the left side and gave some excellent passes.

The Lurgan College forwards worked hard to put the pressure on the Armagh defence and after a number of excellent chances, the second goal was tipped in by Samantha Bann.

Armagh did not give up and the last five minutes of the match were tense as both teams stayed strong. The Lurgan College two goal lead proved to be too much for RS Armagh and with excellent skill and team work Lurgan College are now through to the Semi Finals of the McDowell Cup. Final score 2-0 to Lurgan College.
