College win schools' tournament

LURGAN College first eleven won the Senior Schools Tournament title following an emphatic 3-1 victory over Strathearn School, Belfast, in the final.

This tournament was strongly supported by all of the main Schools Cup contenders and with an entry of 27 schools this year, there was plenty of strong opposition to overcome.

The section games saw the College record wins over Cookstown HS, MCB, and a draw against Victoria College.

They progressed to the semi-finals, courtesy of goals from Gemma McBride and Hannah Grieve.

The semi-finals and final were played at Lisnagarvey. After a low tempo start against Bloomfield Collegiate which finished scoreless, the College team moved up several gears to cruise to victories over defending champions RS Armagh (3-0) and Strathearn (3-1).

Goalscorers on the day were: Natalie Barr (4), Chloe McCann and Bethany Barr.

The College first eleven had a 7-0 win on Saturday against Royal School Dungannon with goals coming from Jill Edgar (3), Natalie Barr, Ellen Mullen, Chloe McCann and Gemma McBride.

The second eleven drew 2-2 with Dunganon with goals from Gemma McKitterick and Sophie Matthews.
