They met at Lisnagravey’s Comber Road on Wednesday, Wallace rallying late on to twice come from behind to win 5-2 and keep their hopes of adding to their McCullough Cup victory alive.

Their win set up a final date on Wednesday 26th March with Banbridge Academy, who romped to a 6-1 win over Regent House.

Wallace MOTM Mark McNellis said it was coach Errol Lutton’s half-time words of wisdom that fired his side to their semi-final victory.

He said: “We started off quite scrappy but we got a stern team-talk at half-time and thankfully we turned it around. We started to play a bit better and got the result we needed to get to the final.”

McNellis was named their MOTM by the Wallace coaching staff.

“I’m ecstatic about that,” he said.

“I’m not sure how much I deserved it but I’ll take it, move on and try again in the next game.”

And the Lisnagarvey man was also pleased to overcome local rivals Friends, who had given them an early scare.

He said: “Obviously it’s great but commiserations to them. They put up a great fight, getting into the lead twice. We’ll be humble about it but we’re obviously very happy.”

After the game, Wallace coach Lutton was already turning his thoughts to the final.

“It’ll be difficult,” he said.

“We’ll have to prepare well but we have two weeks to do that. We’re looking forward to it and the boys are delighted to get through the semi-final.”
